Spica Technology ApS - ESG Report 2024 - ESG365

Message from our CEO

Working on this ESG report has been a key milestone for Spica Technology, helping us assess our impact, identify areas for improvement, and strengthen our commitment to sustainability.

Our Advisory Board initiated the process and appointed an ESG lead to oversee it. Through collaboration across departments, we’ve gathered and structured data for our first report.

By involving the whole organization and following external advice to start small, we’ve mapped our data to ensure our ESG initiatives are actionable and scalable. This has required new workflows, improved data collection, and integrating sustainability into daily operations, which employees have embraced.

This is just the beginning. We will continue refining our processes and expanding our ESG initiatives to strengthen our role in the wind energy sector. For Spica Technology, ESG is a strategic decision that enhances our business and supports the long-term success of our partners and the wind industry.

We’ve attended courses and webinars to ensure our report meets VSME standards and accurately reflects our efforts. Our ESG report helps communicate our CO₂e footprint, track progress, and guide strategic decisions. We view 2024 as a year to build on this foundation and see international ESG reporting requirements as a positive step in managing environmental impacts.

We have chosen not to include our revenue to this report, as it, due to internal company policies, is a subject to confidential information.

UN Sustainable Development Goals

Focusing on the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) has been part of our business for years, where we embrace four of the 17 goals.

Sustainable Development Goals
SDG Goal 8

Good health and well-being

At Spica, we support Danish Hospital Clowns to help bring comfort and joy to hospitalized children and their families. We also care deeply about the physical and mental well-being of our employees. That’s why we take part in the Knæk Cancer virtual run, sponsor the local Champagne Run in Silkeborg, and have launched SpicaMotion — giving everyone 15 minutes of paid time daily for a walk or a mindful break.

Inspired by 3. Good health and well-being

SDG Goal 9

Quality education

Since 2019, we’ve welcomed several apprentices and trainees, sharing our expertise to help shape the future of the electrical industry. We’re proud to guide the next generation through hands-on experience, modern standards, and certifications like rope access and international study trips. We also invest in the growth of our permanent team through internal training, job rotations, and skill development opportunities.

Inspired by 4. Quality education

SDG Goal 12

Affordable and clean energy

We work to advance wind performance, aiming to make energy cleaner and more affordable. Our solutions support both new wind farms and the optimization of older turbines. With retrofit controller designs, we help extend turbine lifespans by up to 20 years — reducing costs and increasing efficiency. We also contribute to renewable energy through our own 100 kW solar panel system, which produced around 70,484 kWh in 2024.

Inspired by 7. Affordable and clean energy

SDG Goal 13

Decent work and economic growth

Thanks to our contribution to local and national growth, we’ve received the Danish “Successful Company” award three years in a row (2020–2022), as well as the “Børsen Gazelle” award in 2022 for continuous economic growth. By advancing wind performance, we support both the wind industry and sustainable economic development.

Inspired by 8. Decent work and economic growth

Environment (E)

As an SME, Spica Technology works mainly with other small and medium-sized enterprises in our supply chain. Since this is our first ESG report, many of our suppliers have not yet started ESG reporting.

To simplify the process, we focused on the most commonly used materials in our production and only requested data for components delivered to us. This approach reduces the administrative burden for suppliers and lays the groundwork for future ESG collaboration.

By the end of 2024, we managed 1,071 active items in our ERP system and began collecting raw material data for scope 3 reporting. We implemented a monthly KPI system and received our first data in October 2024, with tracking continuing into 2025 to improve our reporting.

Due to missing data, our economic CO₂e intensity is reported as zero, though this doesn't mean we have no emissions. As we collaborate more with suppliers, we expect to gather more accurate data. Our 2024 KPI goal was to collect raw material data to set a baseline for 2025.

In 2024, Spica Technology established our first annual baseline for environmental impact and CO₂e emissions. The results, based on verified data from our suppliers and colleagues, mark an important step toward our long-term environmental goals and provide a foundation for targeted improvements in the years ahead.

Environment Image
Social Image

Social (S)

We focus on creating a safe, healthy, and inclusive workplace. In 2024, we had 23 full-time employees with an 87% retention rate. We regularly conduct employee satisfaction surveys to improve our work environment and culture.

We provide fair compensation, above the legal minimum, with benefits like paid vacation, a flexible benefits account, and pension contributions. Gender diversity is important to us, with 30% of employees being women.

In 2024, we achieved zero workplace accidents. Our wellbeing initiatives include flexible hours, healthcare coverage, stress management tools, and ergonomic support. We encourage physical activity with paid breaks for walking or mindfulness.
Our employee-led events promote team spirit, and we sponsor community initiatives like Champagneløbet and the Knæk Cancer virtual run.

We believe that when employees thrive, the business thrives, and our efforts reflect this core belief.

Governance (G)

At Spica, we prioritize governance through transparency, accountability, and fairness, addressing risks related to corruption and unethical practices.

Anti-Bribery and Corruption: We enforce a zero-tolerance policy for bribery and corruption, with no legal cases in this area.

Cyber Security and Data Protection: We use advanced firewalls, robust cyber security systems, and three backup systems to ensure data protection and business continuity.

In 2024, our Advisory Board consisted of CEO Benny Thomsen, CTO Anders B. Jensen, and Head Advisor Jan Gerber.
